Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you need to know about the Toon Tone game, from scoring and HSB sliders to character challenges.

What is Toon Tone?+
Toon Tone is a free browser color memory game where you rebuild character-inspired palettes with HSB sliders. The Toon Tone game asks you to match color parts such as a suit, cape, body, cheeks, or accent color, then compares your guess with the original palette.
How does Toon Tone scoring work?+
Each color part is compared with its target using ΔE (delta E), a perceptual color-distance measurement. Lower ΔE means a closer match. Toon Tone converts each part into a 0-100 score, then averages the parts into your final 0-100 result.
What does HSB mean?+
HSB stands for Hue, Saturation, and Brightness. Hue is the color angle on the wheel (0–360°). Saturation controls how vivid or muted the color is (0–100%). Brightness controls how light or dark the color appears (0–100%).
Is Toon Tone free?+
Yes, completely free. No sign-up, no downloads, no payment required. Just open the page and start playing.
Does Toon Tone work on mobile?+
Yes! Toon Tone is fully responsive with touch-friendly sliders. It works great on phones and tablets.
Is Toon Tone a game?+
Yes. Toon Tone is a browser-based color guessing and color memory game. You pick a character challenge, rebuild the palette from memory, and get a score based on how close your colors are to the original.
How can I get a higher score?+
Start by matching the hue (color family) first — this has the biggest impact on ΔE. Then fine-tune saturation and brightness. Most players overestimate saturation; the original colors are often more balanced than you remember.
What characters are in Toon Tone?+
Toon Tone currently includes 33 playable characters across 5 categories: Superheroes (Superman, Spider-Man, Hulk, Iron Man, Wonder Woman, Batman), Disney (Mickey Mouse, Elsa, Cinderella, Simba, Buzz Lightyear, Mike Wazowski, Nemo), Anime (Pikachu, Goku, Naruto, Totoro, Doraemon, Hello Kitty), Cartoons (SpongeBob, Patrick, Shrek, Homer Simpson, Garfield, Bugs Bunny, Scooby-Doo), and Video Games (Mario, Sonic, Pac-Man, Kirby, Luigi, Link, Mega Man).
What is ΔE (delta E)?+
ΔE is a measurement of the perceptual difference between two colors. In color science, it represents the distance between colors in a way that better matches human vision than raw RGB numbers. In Toon Tone, lower ΔE means your guess was closer to the target.
Are the palettes official?+
No. Toon Tone is an independent fan-made game. Palettes are gameplay references inspired by recognizable character colors, not official brand guides or studio-approved color specifications.
